There was something dreary and dry about a-ha's comeback album 'Minor Earth, Major Sky'. The first single from the band's new album 'Lifelines' gives a fresher and more inspired impression. With Magne Furuholmen as the musical engine, a-ha has come up with a single that leaves you longing for more. You get filled with a fragile feeling of greatness as the chorus's classic melancholic melody embraces you. 'Forever Not Yours' is like a young cousin of 'The Living Daylights': dark, dramatic and with clear references to the eighties in the sound picture. Mags' distinct and hypnotizing synth piano is a clear admittance to where they come from - the synth-pop scene from the eighties. It is the Swedish electronic artist Naid and American producer Stephen Hague (known for albums with New Order and Pet Shop Boys) who have given a-ha this slightly nostalgic, but still 2002-relevant soundscape. With its laid-back beat and solid foundations, the song moves elegantly into the present tense.
